I began racing saloon cars a DKW and then moved to this D-type. John Manussis a close friend died in a motor accident going from Tanga to Nairobi. He was a great driver and a loss to us all.Competition was Porche Spyder, LeGaley Special Lotus 7 and 12's MG's TR3's. Later I went to Formula Junior and raced in UK and Italy with it.

As a child in the 60's, my uncle G.E. Phillips (Toronto, ON) owned this car. He drove it regularly and I went for several rides in it. I remember sitting on towels in the passenger side cockpit, looking up at the tach. moving around . I attended several local car shows with him. He also had a 300sl purchased new and a 72 Ferrari Daytona Berlinetta.
