The car was sold by Lowis and Hotchkiss to John Manussis who raced it at Nakuru Park with race number 2. Manussis sold the car to Nolis Samaras who repainted it red with a broad white stripe and also raced it at Nakuru

I began racing saloon cars a DKW and then moved to this D-type. John Manussis a close friend died in a motor accident going from Tanga to Nairobi. He was a great driver and a loss to us all.Competition was Porche Spyder, LeGaley Special Lotus 7 and 12's MG's TR3's. Later I went to Formula Junior and raced in UK and Italy with it.

As a child in the 60's, my uncle G.E. Phillips (Toronto, ON) owned this car. He drove it regularly and I went for several rides in it. I remember sitting on towels in the passenger side cockpit, looking up at the tach. moving around . I attended several local car shows with him. He also had a 300sl purchased new and a 72 Ferrari Daytona Berlinetta.
