Remember this vehicle after Gary Bremer had placed it in boxthorn hedge.
Remember it because I sweeped the floor whilst, it was repaired throughout the night, so it was ready to race at Bulls.
Enjoyed a fast ride to Hawera, as passenger, sort of why I became a mechanic.

I remember this car well from when Simon Taylor owned it. I remember it competing at a Raglan Airfield grass track meeting I was also racing at and in one of its races it went into a wild spin exciting the spectators!! I also saw it competing in the Horohora hillclimb and it was rather spectacular to watch and to hear its fabulous exhaust note.

I remember when Angus Hyslop had it at a hill climb near Te Aute, Hawkes Bay. Would have been late '50's. In fact on reading through the history above, I now remember he had only just bought it, so 1958 is probably right.
My father Bill Tucker, a founding member of the Hawkes Bay Car Club, was a steward at the local hill climb.& he introduced me to Angus who was kind enough to let me sit in the cockpit. As a car mad young 9 year old I was over the moon. The memory of this is still vivid today

Briefly glimpsed in 2017 documentary film "McLaren" - www.imcdb.org/vehicle_1332891-Jaguar-D-Type-XKD534-1956.html - which reuses archive film from 1961 of the 'Round the Town' race in Dunedin - www.nzonscreen.com/title/new-zealand-grand-prix-1961 . The entry list shows Angus Hyslop as the driver - www.theroaringseason.com/attachment.php&d=1474429130

The 1961 film also has a blink-and-miss-it glimpse of a dark green C-Type, driven according to the entry list by "D. Young"..

No results have been found for the race.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
